The story of how we met could be spun to sound similar to Romeo and Juliet's balcony scene, but it wouldn't do it justice... nor would it be 21st century believable.
So the story goes...
Doug on deck and Brooke on asphalt. Not quite the Capulet's castle; but the deck and parking lot of the Bell Buoy Inn, Dewey Beach Delaware. Doug spotted Brooke (wearing a beret) walking towards the Inn and thought, "What is that beautiful French girl doing in Dewey Beach? I must talk to her." After getting a little courage, or peer pressure from his friends, Doug called down to Brooke with the best line he could think of... "Hey, do you play flip cup?" To his surprise, she acknowledged the cheesy line and would play. The games were enjoyable, the conversation was even better and the newly formed team of Brooke and Doug came out on the winning side of the competition. They ran into each other again ( well...actually Doug came running after Brooke crossing 4 lanes of traffic after spotting her on her way home from dinner to see what her plans for the evening were). They later met up at the infamous Rusty Rudder where they found each other among the mosh pit of people and enjoyed the sounds of a live band, Burnt Sienna. There was something very unique and special about the first weekend together, it left a huge desire for the two to see one another again.
The summer romance started as a long distance relationship; Doug was living in Bethlehem, PA and Brooke was in Bethesda, MD. Distance did not keep them apart; weekends became their time together. They spent almost every weekend traveling, sight seeing and biking (a sport Brooke picked up soon after meeting Doug). Finally, an opportunity presented itself through a job offer from Booz Allen Hamilton and Doug made the move down to Maryland. Soon after Doug's move, they bought a new home and have settled in Rockville, MD
... and they lived happily ever after!
